Interview with an Aspiring Model

There are all different type of Models Agencies like to represent from the Fit girl next door with the killer smile and all American Looks to the Odd, Quirky very editorial lanky type. Not everyone ‘gets it’ when it comes to fashion and why her and not her.. Agents are really the ones who decide what’s in and who gets to be represented by their Agency. I’ve seen the prettiest girls whom seem to have everything it takes get turned down left and right from agencies and then I’ve seen such Interesting Androgynous looking types work like nuts. really.. anything goes. You’ll never know who’ll think you are special! I think the most important characteristic you must have as an aspiring model though.. is DRIVE. You have to be the type that just goes for it.. that doesn’t stop until you get there.. doesn’t matter how many doors are slammed in your face. You don’t give up!! Most of the girls who are represented by agencies in NY.. have this Common Trait. Because not all of us are going to get scouted in the Mall or an Airport. Lucky for you if that happens but MOST models fight tooth and nail to get signed.

For Instance, I was recently sent Pics from a model from Germany. This girl wanted to be a Fashion model so bad and believed in herself so much.. She said bye bye to her Dad.. in a little town south of Munich.. and flew off to NY, just with the dream of getting signed by an Agency. That is DRIVE!! That is Courage, my friends. That is someone who is going to make her dream happen. I just love to see that kind of spirit.. it is so exciting because I know great things will happen for this girl.

So, of course she didn’t have the right pictures as she went on open calls to all the agencies. She had a book pf professional pictures.. and was told NO by every agency she saw! After, she contacted me.. I said let’s take some REGULAR snapshots and I emailed them to 6 Top modeling agencies and instantly she had appointments. None knew she was the same girl that was just in their office on an open call that week.. Why? Because when you go in for Open Calls.. they take your Book or pictures to the agents and they get passed around. The agents never see YOU! See you might have what it takes but if your pics are bad… what a waste of time! That’s why it’s so important to have the right pics… which are simple digital polaroids your mom took! It’ll make everything so much easier and you can begin your exciting, jet setting career as a model quicker.
