Check out this beautiful  guy I scouted in New York recently..  He was in NY shooting an ad campaign with Ben watts, but had no fashion agency (he’s an actor & his talent agency in Ft.Lauderdale submitted him.) So, I immediately took these snaps below and sent them to the top three modeling agencies for Men in Miami, where he lives.  Ford, Wilhelmina and Next.  They all loved him and he was offered two contracts on the spot.  Chris is now a signed Fashion model with FORD Men.    See how fast this business works? Chris was signed off of these simple snapshots.. agencies can see how photogenic he is and his potential, just from a single photo.

This past weekend I was reminded why all of you love modeling so much AND WHY..  I love this business so much!

There is no other business in the world that you can go to work and meet interesting creative cool people all working together to make you look your best, while inspiring  them all… while having a blast AND getting PA-AID well to do so ! ! !  Name another business please that is more exciting ?  One that requires no formal training at all to start working ? ? ?

Since I devote all my time now to scouting and developing models for Fashion Agencies, I hardly model myself anymore.  So, I chose to do this job because one of my favorite photographers was shooting it.    BEN WATTS!!  Now, a lot of peeps know Ben because he is Naomi Watts Bro… well, hate to break it to you but Ben is a star in his own right.. and all you  real fashionistas know this!   He shoots everything… Victoria Secret and all the hottest mags, models and celebs. So, it really was exciting shooting with him at the Famous Chelsea Milk Studios.  I felt inspired, beautiful and  powerful and I kept thinking GOD I MISS THIS FEELING!!!  LOL    I really had forgotten how fun it is to model.

I was also very excited to have Brent Lavett do my hair. He is one of the most talented hair stylist’s working today and is already creating a lot of buzz in the fashion and beauty world for creating Lavett & Chin Hair products (with his wife).. they are about to drop the best pommade ever made, called No2 Pommade.  This is the best stuff if you want a sexy, glamorous mane, like the Victoria Secret girls he styles!!

Since I was a little girl I have loved fashion and the fashion modeling  business.. a lot like YOU out there I used to look through fashion Magazines imagining and  dreaming of one day working with an amazing team like I did last weekend.  I get it.. you only have ONE life to live, so why in the world would you spend it behind a desk at a boring 9-5 job..  uughh!!! BOR~ING!!  I know YOU are ready to start shooting with top photogs and amazing teams, clients oin exotic locations.

If you think you have what it takes to model.. please do not hesitate to send me your pics!  I would love to make your dreams come true too. This is why I am here. I know the types of models agencies are looking for and  I LOVE helping others to reach their goals of becoming a model.  So, I hope that you trust me to help guide you and answer your questions and offer you good sound advice.  I really wish I had someone helping me understand the business when I was 15, geez I wish the internet was around then.. I think I would’ve saved my parents so much money!!   Well, we live and we learn right?

So, with the New Year comes new exciting changes.. technology is moving so fast and as I love to be one step ahead of the all the other model scouts running around shopping malls ; )  Everyone knows those New faces are at home shopping online while hanging out on Facebook! So, I am going to make it 10x EASIER for you to show me your gorgeous faces!!!

It has been amazing that I have been able to Scout so well through my Blog and my Facebook Fanpage.  I have signed several models to agencies in NY, Boston, Miami, LA and abroad. So, since most of the aspiring models that send me their snapshots do not live in the New York tri-state area.. NY agencies ALWAYS ask to see Video of the models before deciding to meet with them.

SO….  Since almost everyone has a smart phone or a computer with a camera on it……  I am NOW making it even easier for you to get scouted.   I can tell even easier by Video, what you look like, if your face is photogenic, if your body is proportionate and especially I get a feel for your personality!!

So, go to my FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE and upload a Video of you! It’s so easy.  Or You can even take one right from your webcam straight from Facebook!!!

Here’s what to do and Say..   (remember I can always share your Video with other modeling agents on FB!)

Just say your Name and age (if you want) and where you are from (the city, or town) and how Tall are you.. then show me both profiles and smile and turn around.  THAT’s IT!!  If I see potential, I will ask you for more info or to send me snapshots…

If you don’t have anyone to take the video for you, or if at this stage you are too shy.. you can take the video yourself, like I have demonstrated below..  I just held up my iPhone and made sure to show off my face from all angles.. I can always request snapshots If I like what you send.. It DOES NOT have to be perfect!! (as you can see below)   Please wear NO makeup and pull your hair back in a ponytail (for girls).. just like you see I

See how easy that is?  Like snapshots you will have to take videos like this all the time for castings so it’s a good habit to practice this anyways..  and then send me your best one! I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE all your videos!!!!

Okay, okay.. today is a VERY important Lesson.

I know you want to be a model and pose and pose your Tuckus off!  Trust me.. You WILL have your day!  But when you send your snapshots to model Scouts and Agencies they DO NOT want to see you pose.

Models are BLANK PALETTE’s..   Agents just want to SEE you.. simple simple you, no makeup and just standing there like you are waiting for the Bus.  We want to see what YOU look like without your dog, your horse, your favorite lipstick or your favorite pose…

Please let me show you WHAT NOT TO DO..

Yes, the model in the snapshots is Gorgeous but who can see her beauty when she is just showing me her moves, poses, dogs and scenery..   90% of the snapshots I get are just like these. Please, do your homework! Snapshots are very important in your career as a model. You will never stop taking them for your agency, future agencies, clients and shows.

So, Learn how to take a good simple snapshot.

Finally a Show about Models that is more Fact than Fiction, finally depicting how models really get signed to Top NY agencies.  I LOVE this new Show.. created by  modeling agent Michael Flutie, president of COMPANY MODELS (an agency I used to be signed to ; )

The Show follows legendary model scouts as they go to malls and track meets and look for the next new face. The show actually shows you the process of taking a teenage girl from obscurity and flying her to New York City to get a chance to do a test shoot and meet with

Scott Lipps, President of the Amazing agency ONE MANAGEMENT.

Scott Lipps has been a personal friend of mine for years and actually used to be my booker back when I was a new face!  He is the creative force behind ONE MANAGEMENT’S success.. the only agency to combine fashion modeling, acting and musicians to his board.  Scott actually is the coolest Agents in NYC, he is an accomplished Drummer and recently played with Hole & Courtney Love in Brazil in front of 50,000 people!) If that’s not a cool agent, I don’t know what is!ch with Scott last week and he told me about this new show called SCOUTED on E! and how it’s great to finally have a show that aspiring models can see how the fashion modeling business really is.   Scott is the agent that gets to make the final decision whether ONE will sign the models or not.

SCOUTED airs tonight on E! at 10pm.. So make sure you check it out. You can also go to http://www.eonline.com/on/shows/scouted/index.html   and check out snippets of last week’s show.  It’s sooo awesome. I just love this new show.  A couple of the scouts on this show have been mentors of mine for years and it’s great to see a show on exactly what I love to do..  You can also upload your pics to E! and have the chance to be Scouted too! ; )

Congrats to Brianna Acevedo, one of my amazing young models.. who at 15 has signed with a TOP New York modeling Agency. I am so proud of her. Her mom, Felicia, sent me her snapshots this Summer and after a couple photoshoots to get the right images to show agencies then numerous meetings for Brianna with the Best Agencies in New York.. Brianna is officially a FASHION MODEL! I am so excited for her. She is already building her book, shooting for photographers and will be getting ready for the Spring/Summer 2012 Shows. How exciting! Because Brianna lives in Maryland, I wasn’t able to take her snapshots so I worked with Brianna’s mom over and over until we got them right. Luckily Brianna is a natural…

I just Love Brianna.. this girl is FIERCE. From the first time I met her at 15 she knew exactly what it meant to be a model. She knew how to move, she had been studying models, magazines, designers.. She was prepared. I love smart models. It’s no wonder several top agencies loved this girl.. I see an amazing career ahead of her.

This is why I love this job.. getting to be a part of Brianna’s journey and future successes is AMAZING!

Late Summer 2011… A freckle faced Kid named Kevin Breen sent me his two mugshots and wanted some advice on how to get started modeling…

Immediately seeing his potential and since he was from Boston.. I sent him over to CLICK Boston and they immediately handed Kevin a contract.. I also sent him to see a couple TOP agencies in New York. Everyone loved him and we agreed he needed to travel first and build his book before taking on the fiercely competitive NY Market.

Not even a month later Kevin was on a plane to Athens, Greece to work with ACE Models. Greece is a great market for a new Face to build their book and ACE models jumped at the chance to develop Kevin.

Kevin is currently working in Greece and will be back home late December.

I am soo proud of him.. This is just the beginning. I love kids that have the guts to follow their dreams and it makes me feel awesome that I can be one of the ones to make it happen for you guys!!

The fashion Business moves very quickly and it’s not uncommon to send your pics to a scout or agency and the next month shooting for Magazines.. Just like Kevin.

One Sunday morning I jumped on the train heading uptown to go to a Booking. It was an odd day to work as I can’t remember the last day I have had a booking on a Sunday and I wasn’t too particularly excited about my job since I knew we were shooting in a creepy mental hospital on Randall’s Island… but this day was different from a lot.. for this was the day I discovered Stevie Lynn.

Stevie was on the train headed to work that morning, it was early and he seemed in a daze so I kindly handed him my card-told him to email me and jumped off the train. I only saw him for a moment but I knew he was a very special kid. He was mostly hidden under a baseball cap but I could see his beautiful bone structure and twin guitar tats on his neck.. I thought WOW! What a gorgeous kid.. he doesn’t look a day over 18 but he seemed an old soul.

Turns out Stevie emailed me back within an hour, which is often the case with male models.. always  curious about this business.  He asked a couple questions and said he was game for whatever…   and really the rest is history.

After doing a test shoot with Stevie I sent his pics to several top agencies in NY, several of which wanted to sign him.. I told Stevie it was up to him to decide.  He chose to go with Colby Models, a boutique editorial agency founded early this year by Ryan Colby.  Ryan was CRAZY for Stevie and Stevie wanted to work with no one else.

I was surprised at Stevie’s decision, really only because almost every model I speak with.. they only want to go with Ford, Next or Elite, or a BIG name…  I guess Stevie being an old wise soul kinda knew that he would get more attention with a smaller agency hungry to make a name..  I just love smart models.  This is how I know Stevie will do very well..  Well, that and the fact that everyone is talking about this young kid with the band tats.. ; )

So isn’t that cool? You kinda get a peek into his mind.  You see why I tell all of you that you gotta have PERSON-AL-ITY!  Nobody likes a boring model. what a snooze!  This is the reason why I love, love , love my job.  I know I am literally giving models like Stevie a more colorful life.
