My Book

In the modeling business models call their portfolio, or photobook, their “Book”. A model’s book is her world, it’s her ‘money’, it is your everything! It’s where all your tearsheets – pages of your shoot taken out of a magazine – are displayed. Fashion Models put only editorial (Magazine) work in their Books, or new models put “tests”… which are just shoots with photographers to fill your book until you start working. You never put catalog work or advertising in it because if you have your Covergirl ad in your Book… why would Revlon hire you. Plus, your Book is always changing with your new work. Clients do not want to see the same old pictures… this is why models, especially when they are new, travel to foreign countries to work… to build their Book. So, let me reiterate… your job will be all about making the best looking book possible… you will work very hard to do this. Clients look at your Book to book you for work… not you! They may glance at you to make sure your skin is clear and your fit… but they want to see how you photograph… because that is all their clients are going to see! You start to build your book once you are signed with an agency. It’s a waste of time and money to start before. ((See Submitting pics to Agents))

Below are photos that were in my book at some time. As you can see I have a lot of different looks. This is a good thing. You want to be exciting… not give the same look in every photo. Clients like to see that you are evolving and changing and your book should reflect this (over the years).

There are also examples of Acting Headshots I have used over the years… everyone uses color now. If you are going to be auditioning for TV Commercials you will need to get professional headshots taken. This is essential.
